World Street Skateboarding Rome 2023: Women's Quarterfinals Update!

Written by Niall Neeson

We are reporting to you direct from Qualifications day one in sun-kissed Rome, Italy, as the World Skateboarding Tour continues upon its Road To Paris 2024.

Qualification days are the most taxing of the entire week-long event since only 27 skaters from either division can progress to Friday’s quarter-finals (where they meet the 5 pre-seeded to make a total of 32). The format for qualifications and indeed quarter-finals is a test of consistency in the form of two 45-second runs.

While the best run is taken as the decisive score, the availability of two runs also allows the skaters to set out their stall early and then turn it up a gear if subsequent runs bump them down the leaderboard.

This is where the element of strategy enters the equation and develops further from this point, because the coaches are also noting what the likely qualifiers are capable of- and what indeed might be required to displace them in a subsequent round.

So this is the inflection point where things become a little more serious, and more so every day from hereon in.

Down the hill below us, in the valley of the Colosseum, the life of the city continues its relentless pace both night and day: stay alongside everyone here on the Colle Oppio hillside as World Street Skateboarding Rome heads toward a temperature-raising crescendo this weekend.
