WS Skateboard Coaching Commission- Expressions Of Interest Sought

Written by Niall Neeson

Calling All Skateboarding Educators!

Join the WS Skateboard Coaching Commission (SBCC) and help us build our strategy for the future!

As part of our ongoing commitment  to expand the functions of World Skate as a governing body and engage with the wealth of talent and passion in the present-day skateboarding scene, we are hereby calling for expressions of interest in suitably-qualified people to form the SBCC.

Commissions matter because they represent the avenues through which ‘best fit ’can be brought forward into a public forum and discussed in a clear, respectful and transparent way.

We have seen this process implemented for our Athletes, Judging, Gender Equality and Technical Commissions, but what will make the SBCC different is that it is about shaping a global framework for skateboard coaching and making education readily available to all federations.

Clear criteria will create distinct learning streams for skateboarding coaches, which will not only raise standards and improve know-how, but will integrate knowledge and ideas  from tapping into established performance programmes in other aligned sports. Nutrition, physical preparation, injury prevention/recovery, mindset, competition strategy and creation of fun learning environments are some examples of where competitive skateboarding may benefit.

The SBCC will also serve several other functions, across the Olympic cycle, including the creation of upward opportunities, in both skateboarding and the wider world of sport coaching, administration and academia, allowing coaches to capably apply for roles in a range of sectors (as is the case in most professional sports today).

In order to make the SBCC as broadly representative as possible, we wish to invite expressions of interest from anyone who wants to help us shape the future of skateboard coaching development and belongs to any of the following:

  • Active Street and Park discipline coaches from grassroots to elite level
  • Active Street and/or Park competitive skateboarders
  • National Federation staff members
  • Coaching educators/Learning experts/Higher education institutional expertise
  • Aligned Olympic Sport experience
  • Sport Sciences/Allied Health
  • Sport Administration/Performance Managers
  • Syllabus development/accreditation expertise
  • LGBTIQ+
  • Different age groups
