Skateboarding Olympians sign the wall of the International Olympic Committee!

Written by Niall Neeson

A downpour delay today during WST Lausanne allowed our Tokyo Olympians to take up an invite to visit the International Olympic Committee headquarters in the city and add their signatures to the wall of Olympian visitors who have passed through those hallowed doors.

Skateboarders from around the globe who took part in skateboarding’s Olympic debut were hosted by Olympic President Thomas Bach and World Skate President Sabatino Aracu, who jointly presented each of the attendees with a plaque certifying their Olympian status, a pin badge proving the same, and a one-off Swatch wristwatch festooned with the Olympic rings logo.

After the wall signing ceremony and some speeches thanking the skateboarders for the energy and passion they have infused the Olympic Games with since Tokyo 2020, our skateboarding delegation were given a grand tour of the new state-of-the-art IOC building on the shores of Lac Leman.

This deepening of the relationship between the skateboarding world and the Olympic movement seems certain to build toward a bright future for both as we head toward Paris 2024 and beyond!
