I wonder if you recall our feature launching the WSK Coach Education and Accreditation System (CEAS) in Lithuania some months back?
It contained a call-out to National Federations desiring to host a WSK Coaching workshop of their own- and that’s exactly what Singapore just did.
April saw coaching mentors Kenny Reed and Amber Edmondson host twenty entry-level skateboard coaches on a four-day course starting their accredited coaching journey through theoretical and practical sessions at the invitation of Singapore’s government agency Singapore SG (Sport).
The course culminated in CEAS Level 1 certifications being issued to all successful coaches as a result of ongoing assessment throughout.
As with Lithuania, the knowledge exchanged was multi-lateral and capped by a free learner’s skate cllinic on the last day allowing the local coaches the opportunity to put some of the structured teaching methodologies into practice.
The fact that more than seventy participants turned up to try skateboarding for the first-time was testament to the organisational and promotional support and collaboration of Singapore Sport as well as evidence of the increasing popularity and appetite for skateboarding worldwide- and the need for quality coaching practices which allow locals to share their love of the activity in a safe, enjoyable and positive way.
CEAS’ 4- tier certification scheme is part of the WSK Development Strategy which aims to champion the growth and development of skateboarding through the inclusive availability of a vast array of education and support opportunities across the three key areas of: Community, Pathways and Governance.
The collective intent of the strategy is to create pathway structures in every aspect of skateboarding up to and including the Olympic Games as far and wide as we can.
If you are a National Federation with a cohort of skateboard coaches who would like to begin their coaching journey- which may in time find them alongside the coaches from 50 or more countries already on the World Skateboarding Tour- contact us through your preferred channel in order to join Lithuania and Singapore on the path to entering into our internationally-recognised Skateboard Coach Accreditation system!
