One theme which comes up time and again from people who know more about such things than you or I is how Africa remains the great untapped well of international skateboarding talent.

As you will hear from our African ISJC continental representative Francisco Vinho at the start of this episode, what the continent needs most urgently is not just new skateboarding infrastructure but institutions, also.

It may not be fashionable to say so, but from a development viewpoint what skateboarders need is standardised pathway building blocks against which to raise their game.

The footage from Francisco's excellent intro comes from six nations who are just beginning to get established in terms of organisation around events and scene development.

Once they get a circuit established, we will quite quickly see breakout stars emerge from Africa, of that there can be little doubt.

Skateboarding competitions, in the end, are bond-building exercises with a dimension of compared improvement- and that’s one reason why they remain popular while other aspects of the culture flounder in self-regard.

Helping those competitions become stepping-stones requires a universal understanding of how they are judged from elite level down, and so this second episode of Let’s Talk About Judging sees World Skate’s Deputy Street Head Judge and certified skateboarding legend JB Gillet break down the answers to some of Africa’s most-asked questions about contemporary Skateboard Judging.
