One Month To Go- All You Need To Know About WST World Cup Rome 2026!

Written by Niall Neeson

Followers of the World Skateboarding Tour will already be familiar with our longstanding relationship with the city of Rome.

WST World Cup Rome 2026 is the first Olympic qualification event leading up to LA 2028 and is comprised of two separate contests- Park and Street, on successive weeks.

The event is a fortnight- long celebration of skateboarding running from Sunday June 7th to Sunday June 21st, 2026.

The Spot Skatepark in Rome’s waterfront district of Ostia will greet hundreds of skateboarders from around the globe on June 7th for the WST Rome Park World Cup, before the action switches to the shadow of the Colosseum one week later for WST Rome Street in the Colle Oppio park overlooking the world-famous landmark.

Both Men’s and Women’s divisions are awarded equal status and prize money.

The first phase of each week’s eliminations are an Open Qualifier in which the field of over a hundred entrants from 45 countries or more are whittled down.

How Can I Follow The Action?

Thanks to World Skate's close cooperation with Italy’s state body Sport E Salute, both of these events are free admission to spectators- and are also broadcast live around the world via online and terrestrial partners, as well as via our own excellent YouTube channel.

Fields Of Play: Where The Action Happens

Park

The Spot is a skateboarding institution in Lido de Ostia, the only part of the greater Roman municipality which touches the (Tyrrhenian) sea.

Beyond being merely a skatepark, The Spot is a community regeneration project which has brought not just new energy but palpable economic benefits to a district which has perhaps not felt the economic uplift of mass tourism which the urban heart of Rome has.

Street

Parco Colle Oppio is an 11-hectare ‘green lung’ on a hillside which runs down to the Colosseum valley in central Rome. The park is the location of a vast urban villa known as the Domus Aurea (‘Golden House’) constructed by the Roman Emperor Nero after much of Rome city centre was ravaged by fire almost 2 thousand years ago. The Domus Aurea was itself destroyed after Nero’s death and a second vast structure was built where it stood. The Baths of Trajan remained in use until the 5th century AD and the exterior wall is still visible rising high behind the judge’s booth.

The Colle Oppio skatepark is an original design by California Skateparks which was built in cooperation with Italian company Ignoramps and other renowned European builders.

The elevation of the hillside location affords a spectacular backdrop view of the fabled Colosseum of Rome, a UNESCO Heritage Of Humanity site and one of the most famous landmarks in the entire world.

What Is The World Skateboarding Tour?

The World Skateboarding Tour forms the road to the Olympic Games: the travelling Open contest series is organised and administered by World Skate as the official IOC- recognised governing body of skateboarding.
The WST allows skateboarders from anywhere in the world to enter and advance on merit through the World Skateboarding Ranking to hopefully be crowned annual World Champion- or even an
Olympic medallist.

The World Skateboarding Tour incorporates both World Cup and World Championship events in both Street and Park, all of which offer the opportunity to gather WSR ranking points toward qualification for future Olympic Games.

WST World Cup Rome 2026 is the official starting point for skateboarding’s Road To LA28.

The WSR’s rolling 18-month results window going forward toward LA28 rewards consistency, while offering opportunities for new entrants to overcome point stockpiles accrued from previous years.

Our aim is to keep the WST- and the Olympic cycles which it forms the sole pathway into- competitive, fair and exciting for all involved.

The World Skateboarding Tour’s Road To LA28 composes Phase 1 of qualification to the Los Angeles Olympic Games of 2028 and will run up until March 2028.

At that point a selection funnel based upon these criteria will send forward 44 athletes per discipline/ gender into Phase 2 which will run from April to June of 2028.

The intensity of competition for those places means the standard of skateboarding on display represents the cutting edge of contemporary skateboarding worldwide today. No other event series can say that.
