A Closer Look | WST World Cup Skateboarding – Kitakyushu, Japan
In this episode of A Closer Look, we go inside World Cup skateboarding in Japan at the WST World Cup Kitakyushu — the first World Skateboarding Tour event ever held on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu.
From Japanese skateboarders competing on home turf to international contenders reconnecting on the road, this episode looks beyond tricks and scores to capture the people and moments that define life on the World Skateboarding Tour.
Skateboarders featured at the event include Rocco Müller, Yumeka Oda, Mei Ozeki, Nyjah Huston, Yuto Horigome, Chloe Covell, Liz Akama, Joe Hinson, Daniel Whoolley, Sora Shirai, Jiyul Shin, Tenghe Wang, Gabriel Ribeiro, Taiga Nagai, Momiji Nishiya, Wallace Gabriel, Chenxi Cui, João Lucas, Yuanling Zhu, Juni Kang, Yukito Aoki, Kairi Netsuke, Ibuki Matsumoto, and more — representing the depth, diversity, and global reach of World Cup skateboarding.
With Kitakyushu hosting a major international skateboarding competition for the first time, the event marked a new chapter for both the World Skateboarding Tour and the local Japanese skateboarding scene. For athletes and fans alike, it was an all-new experience and a new destination on the global competition calendar.
